For many Americans, Memorial Day weekend marks the beginning of summer.
It's a time for picnics and barbecues, for spending time with family and friends.
But it's also a day to remember those who have died serving our country.
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day, and it began after the American Civil War.
At that time, Union veterans founded the Grand Army of the Republic, and they chose to decorate the graves of their fallen comrades with flowers.
Over time, other organizations began holding their own Memorial Day events. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday.
Today, we still take time to remember those who have given their lives in service to our country. And while we're at it, we might also take a moment to reflect on the the current men and women in service (and their families) who protect our country on a daily basis.
Global Sellers Oahu considers many of these soldiers customers and friends.
So this Memorial Day, let's enjoy our freedom to have a great time with family and friends, food, and a frosty beverage.
At the same time, let's remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice who allowed us the possibility to do so.
